Pursuit is a mobile application that teaches you how to eat healthy through cooking at home. You will use healthful ingredients while reducing your trips to the grocery store. The Pursuit app teaches you skills and helps you maintain them. People use this program to feed their families, weight loss, management of chronic diseases, and to works towards an overall healthier lifestyle.
You may have heard of or used prepared meals, ingredient kits, cooking classes, or health coaching. With these solutions, they are either pacifying problems or creating more work for users. For example, many companies have individuals work with health coaches to build better overall health habits.
The issue here is that this requires a lot of effort to not only work with their coach on a daily basis, but then implement the changes in their lives. Programs or online classes that teach people how to cook can be fun, but they aren’t geared towards learning how to cook with healthy ingredients.
On the other end of the spectrum, prepared meals or meal subscriptions are healthy in the short term as they provide a quick fix to eating healthy, but once you stop providing those meals, end users resort back to old ways. This option is also expensive, ranging around $8 per meal not including cost of delivery.
The Pursuit By You brings unique value to your home. We use:
Sustainable ingredients: Recipes use similar ingredients and call for entire packages (cans, boxes, bags) to reduce food waste and extraneous food purchases. Recipes use unprocessed ingredients, real food ingredients, and minimal to no negative environmental impact.
Strategic nutrition profile: The registered dietician wrote the recipes with the latest nutrition science. We emphasize real food ingredients, encourage vegetables, and prioritize sustainability. Each recipe has a minimum of 15g of protein and is under 60g of carbohydrates.
Standardized portions: Each recipe makes 1 or 3 and 3 or 6 servings of 400-500 calories to demonstrate portion control and assist in meal planning. Most Recipes provide easy meal preparation for one or to feed larger families.
Active Learning: The Pursuit By You organized the recipes by level, calculated based on the number of ingredients, time, skills, and multitasking needed to make them.
The inability to build new habits is not a matter of will power, personality, or intelligence. It is a simple problem of not enough capacity. The brain’s adaptability allows us to learn new behaviors. But most people are ego depleted (the idea that self-control or willpower draws upon a limited pool of mental resources). When the energy needed to make decisions is low, we do not have self-control, and we find it difficult to form new habits.
To address self-control and habits around food and nutrition, we need to target our subconscious behavior. The Pursuit By You does this through automaticity or reliable solutions to recurring problems in our lives. Individuals can reduce decision making associated with their health and transition from “choosing” healthful foods to healthful foods, becoming the default option.
There are 3 factors that we believe are necessary for automaticity, including: context, repetition, and reward. But it is not that simple. Habits form through persistence. For participants to persist, the entire process needs to be frictionless.
